Carl Davick has been an orchestra instructor at Monona Grove High School since his arrival to Madison in 1993. In addition to his teaching, he maintains a private bass studio and an active performance schedule on the double bass with the Madison Symphony Orchestra.

Beyond the subscription concerts with the MSO, he is often found in the pit orchestra for performances with the Madison Opera, Madison Ballet, and National Broadway touring companies, playing both acoustic and electric bass for musicals that include Phantom of the Opera, Wicked, Chicago, Billy Elliot, The Addams Family, Young Frankenstein, West Side Story, and Little House on the Prairie.

He has also performed with Madison’s Con Vivo and was a member of the Oakwood Chamber players when they were invited to perform at the 25th anniversary of the Kennedy Center. An early career highlight was being a summer musician at Epcot Center at Disney World performing with guest artists Rosemary Clooney, Richard Carpenter, Bill Conti, and Donny Osmond, to name a few.

The Concerts at the Gazebo have become a summer highlight for Davick because of the fun had rehearsing with great friends, colleagues, and former students. A lot of great music making, story telling, and laughter fills the rehearsal room! And most recently, the concerts have included his own children. His daughter Anika and son Soren have played in the concerts on the violin and double bass respectively. Carl’s wife Kym is also involved as you can usually see her guarding the equipment at the gazebo before the sound check! Davick received his BA from St. Olaf College and his MM in Double Bass performance from Northwestern University.
